About this Course
This is an Accredited Course by the Malta Further & Higher Education Authority (MFHEA), at MQF/EQF Level 5, with 12 ECTS. The main aims of this course is to present advanced skills in the target language and intercultural competencies. The course includes French grammar, technical vocabulary used to describe churches, temples, paintings, architectural styles and geographical terms, language functions and familiarization with French culture. Pronunciation is also given importance. Students are also given the opportunity to deliver short presentations in French on various sites.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course the learner will be able to:
- Present historical and cultural information about specific sites in Malta as well as other aspects of political, economic and cultural life in Malta in the target language.
- Have advanced conversations with tourists in their responsibility.
- Talk about the main sites in Malta using proper tenses, suitable vocabulary and grammatical structures as well as correct pronunciation.
- Understand prepositions of place, relative pronouns, personal pronouns, object pronouns, negative forms, present tenses, past tenses, future tenses and subjunctive tense.
- Be familiar with technical vocabulary used to describe churches, prehistoric temples, paintings, architectural styles, geographical terms.
- Understand language functions like welcoming tourists, describing places and historical sites, looking after a group, making suggestions, relating stories and anecdotes.
- Be familiar with French culture for example the French political system, educational system, economy, tourism, gastronomy and religion.
- Operate effectively in most situations that are likely to arise in the target language.
Awarding Body
This qualification is awarded by Institute of Tourism Studies (ITS). This qualification is accredited by the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority. MFHEA deems this Award in French Language for Tour Guiding to be at MQF/EQF Level 5 with 12 ECTS in the Malta Qualifications Framework and the European Qualifications Framework for lifelong learning.
Entry Requirements
Applicants should hold:
- Prior knowledge of the target language is a requirement.
- Minimum age required: 16 years.
If an applicant does not meet the above entry requirements, you are encouraged to contact the Academy for an interview.
Assessment Mode
An Exam (40%), Oral presentation (40%) and a Class Test (20%) will be utilised to assess students for this programme.
Language of Instruction & Delivery Mode
This programme will be delivered in French and English.
