Get 70% of your total fees back when studying a course in Malta
About the Get Qualified Scheme
The Get Qualified Scheme is an initiative by the Maltese Government through the MaltaEnterprise, which gives a student 70% of the total fees when following and studying for a course in Malta.
Who is it for?
This incentive is applicable to any studies leading to a Certificate, Diploma, Degree, Masters or Doctorate in Malta. If a course is accredited by the MFHEA, then it is very likely to be eligible for such a scheme.
To be eligible for the tax credit (rebate), students must spend a minimum of 2 years living and working in Malta after completing their studies. This requirement is designed to ensure that the Maltese government receives a return on its investment in the scheme.
How does it work exactly?
As a student, you will receive 70% back as a rebate on your tuition fees after you graduate and successfully complete your course in Malta. The tuition fee costs are recovered in the form of tax credits.
Is the Get Qualified Scheme still available, though?
Yes, the current Get Qualified Scheme ends in December 2023. However, in the recent Budget 2024 speech, on Monday 30th October 2023, the Hon Minister of Finance Clyde Caruana announced that this scheme will be extended. The legal notice is still set to be published, announcing its official relaunch, however, it should be available in the coming weeks.
What courses are eligible for the Get Qualified Scheme?
It does not matter whether you are studying a Management course, a Human Resources course, a Payroll course or a Gaming course in Malta. What counts is whether that course in Malta is an accredited course. A qualification shall be considered eligible if approved as level 3 or higher on the Malta Qualification Framework (MQF) grading structure.
How would I know if a course is accredited and approved by the MFHEA?
In order to make sure that your course will award you with a qualification, you may wish to check the MFHEA’s Qualifications Data Base here. We also encourage you to get in touch with the institution when choosing a course to follow in Malta. If you can find the awarding institution, it is very likely that you can benefit from the Get Qualified Scheme.
