About this Course
This is an Accredited Course by the Malta Further & Higher Education Authority (MFHEA), at MQF/EQF Level 5, with 2 ECTS.
The Award in Public Speaking at MQF Level 5, aims at providing participants the opportunity to develop public speaking skills necessary to effectively present speeches, address meetings and lead discussions. Through the practice of dynamic techniques, participants will be able to leave a great impact on their audience.
Participants will develop their public speaking competence by learning about specific techniques that enable them to speak with confidence and clarity. They will build professional stage presence by applying vocal variety and effective body-language as well as discover effective speech opening and closing techniques.
This course will enable learners to:
- develop the public speaking skills necessary to effectively present speeches, address meetings and lead discussions in business and social situations
- develop competencies related to both the preparation and the delivery of a speech
- employ specific techniques that to speak with confidence and clarity
- apply techniques to overcome public speaking anxiety
- prepare a speech outline in a structured format
- discover effective speech openings and closing techniques
- explore effective story-telling techniques
- build professional stage presence by applying vocal variety (pitch, tone, pace and volume)
- demonstrate effective body language (eye-contact, posture, facial expressions, hand gestures, body movement).
- motivate an audience to action through powerful public speaking
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, the learner will be able to:
- understand the importance of effective public speaking in business and social situations
- identify techniques that enhance a speaker’s credibility
- conduct an audience analysis when preparing for a speech
- identify the specific purpose for a speech
- set the right tone for the speech
- organize the content for a speech
- construct an effective speech through right use of words
- use language that is clear, simple (non-jargon), and appropriate.
- use language that is vivid, concise and emotional to heighten interest
- build rapport and connection with the audience when speaking
- apply vocal variety in a conversational mode
- demonstrate effective body language when speaking
- provide the audience with a clear message or call to action
- deliver a strong introduction that gauges the audience’s interest
- deliver a memorable conclusion that motivates an audience to action
- narrate stories that keep the audience engaged
- illustrate a clear and logical progression within and between ideas

Target Audience
This course supports professionals occupying various leadership and/ or managerial roles where spoken communication is required. These can include Senior Leadership Executives, Department Managers, HR Professionals, Education & Training Professionals. It also supports executives occupying roles that involve spoken communication with clients including sales professionals.
Awarding Body
This qualification is awarded by the Malta Foundation for Human Resources Development. This qualification is accredited by the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority. The MFHEA deems this Award in Public Speaking to be at MQF/EQF Level 5 with 2 ECTS in the Malta Qualifications Framework and the European Qualifications Framework for lifelong learning.
Entry Requirements
Applicants should hold:
- A minimum level at B2 as a standard in the English Language
If an applicant does not meet the above entry requirements, you are encouraged to contact the Academy for an interview.
Assessment Mode
- As a final assessment the learner will be required to prepare and deliver a speech towards the end of the course.
- The speech needs to be delivered in-class within a pre-set specific time limit. The learner needs to demonstrate sufficient overall comprehension and application of the knowledge shared and the skills demonstrated during the course.
- An evaluation form with pre-defined learning outcomes is utilised to assess the knowledge, skills and competencies.
Grading: The students must achieve a pass mark of at least 50 % and are required to attend 80% of the entire tuition sessions in order to be given a certification.
Language of Instruction & Delivery Mode
This programme will be delivered in English at the FHRD’s training centre in Sliema.
