About this Course
This is an Accredited Course by the Malta Further & Higher Education Authority (MFHEA), at MQF/EQF Level 5, with 2 ECTS.
This MQF Level 5 accredited programme will enable individuals to be familiar with and understand the dynamics of Maltese Employment Law through theoretical as well as practical knowledge. Individuals will be able to connect daily issues encountered when dealing with employees to the legal basis of employment and ancillary legislation.
This programme is an Award furthering studies in human resources as a discipline of study and in the specific areas of employment legislation covering employment conditions, contracts, termination etc. as well as other aspects of Maltese employment Law ranging from occupational health and safety, data processing and immigration. The programme content aims at fostering an advanced level of knowledge for such practitioner or official to be familiar with and understand the dynamics of Maltese Employment Law both from a theoretical context and in practical knowledge permitting the practitioner to know, and be able to, connect daily issues to the legal basis of employment law and ancillary legislation.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, the learner will have:
- gained the necessary skills to further ones involvement in the area of Maltese employment Law by applying the knowledge of the programme in every day practice and demonstrate such knowledge by fostering more sound employment relations whatever the role may be.
- the ability to apply knowledge of employment law during employee relations discussion;
- the ability to guide other employees to the legislative provisions relating to employment as well as be more analytical in the discussions on occupational health and safety.
Through interactive participation this programme will enable participants to:
- Identify different types of employment contracts
- Define employment conditions such as wages, vacation leave, sick leave etc.
- Define what constitutes discrimination and harassment.
- Define the process of employment termination.
- Hold sound knowledge of labour law in general and milestone judgements of the court.
- Identify the basic health and safety requirements at the workplace
- Identify the do’s and don’t on employee data processing
- Identify the immigration requirements for foreign employees
- Apply their knowledge in day-to-day fulfillment of HR related duties such as queries relating to conditions of employment
- Identify and better manage conflict in the workplace such as terminations, dismissals and redundancies
- Appreciate the dynamics that are involved in decisions relating to employment matters.
- Identify and manage issues pertaining to discrimination and harassment at the work place.
Awarding Body
This qualification is awarded by the Malta Foundation for Human Resources Development. This qualification is accredited by the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority. The MFHEA deems this Award in the Practical Applications of Maltese Employment Law to be at MQF/EQF Level 5 with 2 ECTS in the Malta Qualifications Framework and the European Qualifications Framework for lifelong learning.
Entry Requirements
Applicants should hold:
- An Ordinary level of education and 2 years related work experience.
Or
- A Certificate in Human Resources at MQF Level 4
If an applicant does not meet the above entry requirements, you are encouraged to contact the Academy for an interview.
Assessment Mode
- Case studies in the form of long questions about each individual topic tackled in Module 1. Weighting of assessment for this module is 50%.
- Case studies in the form of long questions about each individual topic tackled in Module 2. Weighting of assessment for this module is 50%.
Grading: The long questions will be corrected and students must achieve a pass mark of at least 50 % and are required to attend 80% of the entire tuition sessions in order to be given a certification.
Language of Instruction & Delivery Mode
This programme will be delivered in English at the FHRD’s training centre in Sliema.
