About this Course
This is a Non-Accredited Course by the Malta Institute of Professional Photography.
Whether you’ve just bought your first camera or are seriously considering taking on photography as a new hobby, this eight week course by the MIPP will introduce you to the essential skills needed to take stunning photos. If you own a DSLR or Mirrorless camera and want to learn how to use it to its full potential, this is the right course for you. Learn from industry professionals who are passionate about photography and imparting their practical knowledge to the next generation of digital photographers. This is a face-to-face beginner’s 101 practical guide to your camera and photography fundamentals. Classes are limited to 12 places, so book your place today!
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, the learner would know more about:
- The basics and use of photography equipment
- The 3 elements to exposure – the ISO, Aperture and Shutter Speed.
- Shutter Speed and Symbiotic Harmony
- The use of professional lights
- Colour and Composition
- Basics of night photography
Awarding Body
A certificate of attendance will be awarded by Malta Institute of Professional Photography.
Entry Requirements
Applicants should hold:
- Have their own DSLR or mirrorless camera with manual exposure functionality and at least 1 lens.
- Access to their own computer or laptop
If an applicant does not meet the above entry requirements, you are encouraged to contact the Academy for an interview.

Language of Instruction & Delivery Mode
This programme will be delivered in English in our Campus in Paola as in-class lessons, together with on-location practical lessons. We operate as in an adult learning environment with the aim to emulate a real-life photography studio environment. Students will receive learnings through in person lectures, online resources, practical demonstrations by internal and external tutors and industry leaders.
What to bring:
- Your DSLR or Mirrorless Camera Body with as many lenses as you own.
- Relevant accessories including a charged battery and memory card. We recommend a minimum of 16GB of storage.
- Your charger just in case you need to top-up your battery and/or a spare battery.
- Your tripod (if you own one) only for Week 7.
- Any snacks or nourishment you wish to have during the course.
