About this Course
This is an Accredited Course by the Malta Further & Higher Education Authority (MFHEA), at MQF/EQF Level 4, with 30 ECTS.
The objective of the OTHM Level 3 Diploma in Business Studies qualification is to provide learners with an in depth understanding of the operations and structure of businesses. Successful completion of this qualification will equip learners with the underpinning knowledge and skills required to succeed in employment or further studies.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the OTHM Level 3 Diploma in Business Studies programme, the learner will be able to:
- Research information from a variety of sources, understand common steps in producing academic work, understand different learning styles
- Use, apply core IT skills, prepare for presentations, business writing
- Understand the basic principles of economics and accounting in a business environment.
- Understand the content of basic financial statements and the principles of recording financial transactions.
- Understand different types of businesses, their functions and structures
- Learn basic marketing principles, explore the micro and macro business environment
- Understand the concept of quality and carry out basic business analyses.
- Understand the principles that apply to customer service delivery in organisations across different sectors
- Learn how to propose and implement improvements to customer service
- Learn how to use effective communications techniques with customers.
- Understand the principles that apply to the planning and management of events in a range of business sectors.
- Understand the principles that apply to marketing in a business environment, including marketing models, sales principles, and marketing planning.
- Understand the principles that apply to the management of people in a range of business sectors.
- Understand the role of reward and recognition in a business as well as principles of leadership in business management.
Awarding Body
This qualification is awarded by OTHM. This qualification is accredited by the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority. MFHEA deems this OTHM Level 3 Diploma in Business Studies to be at MQF/EQF Level 4 with 30 ECTS in the Malta Qualifications Framework and the European Qualifications Framework for lifelong learning.
Entry Requirements
Applicants should hold:
- Minimum Qualification: HSC, GCSE, grade 12, F.A or equivalent
- English Proficiency
Minimum Age: 16 If an applicant does not meet the above entry requirements, you are encouraged to contact the Academy for an interview.
Assessment Mode
- All units within this qualification are internally assessed by the centre and externally verified by OTHM. The qualifications are criterion referenced, based on the achievement of all the specified learning outcomes.
- To achieve a ‘pass’ for a unit, learners must provide evidence to demonstrate that they have fulfilled all the learning outcomes and meet the standards specified by all assessment criteria. Judgement that the learners have successfully fulfilled the assessment criteria is made by the Assessor. The Assessor should provide an audit trail showing how the judgement of the learners’ overall achievement has been arrived at
Language of Instruction & Delivery Mode
This programme will be delivered in English in our Campus in St. Julian’s.
The qualification is designed to be delivered over one academic year for full-time study, but it is also flexible in its delivery in order to accommodate part-time and distance learning. The qualification is delivered face-to-face, through lectures, tutorials, seminars, distance and online learning.
