About this Course
This is an Accredited Course by the Malta Further & Higher Education Authority (MFHEA), at MQF/EQF Level 4, with 60 ECTS.
The objective of the OTHM Level 3 Diploma in Fashion and Textiles is to allow learners to explore, develop and test their creativity within a qualification structure which is stimulating and demanding. This is a practical qualification suitable for all learners with an interest in fashion and textiles. The OTHM Level 3 Diploma in Fashion and Textiles is focused on fashion and textile techniques and processes, ideas generation in fashion and textiles, design and innovation, fashion and textiles realisations, personal and professional development in the apparel industry and a final major project.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the OTHM Level 3 Diploma in Fashion & Textiles programme, the learner will be able to:
- Understand historical and contemporary references to fashion and textiles to develop a design brief.
- Respond and generate informative responses, communicate an outcome in response to a design brief.
- Explore idea generation techniques from own research, develop ideas in response to feedback, present a final idea in appropriate format.
- Explore techniques in creating textiles, explore pattern cutting techniques, present ideas in a professional format.
- Apply 2D design ideas into 3D realisations.
- Explore appropriate textiles and materials, explore construction techniques, present a final outcome.
- Understand the importance of portfolio development techniques.
- Plan and produce portfolio content for appropriate specialism.
- Understand professional opportunities in the apparel industry.
- Present and promote own work in a professional context.
- Evaluate creative decisions.
- Propose a creative project, apply critical and contextual analysis to support the final major project,
- Demonstrate appropriate research methods

Awarding Body
This qualification is awarded by OTHM. This qualification is accredited by the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority. MFHEA deems this OTHM Level 3 Diploma in Fashion & Textiles to be at MQF/EQF Level 4 with 60 ECTS in the Malta Qualifications Framework and the European Qualifications Framework for lifelong learning.
Entry Requirements
Applicants should hold:
- Minimum Qualification: HSC, GCSE, grade 12, F.A or equivalent
- English Proficiency
Minimum Age: 16 If an applicant does not meet the above entry requirements, you are encouraged to contact the Academy for an interview.
Assessment Mode
- All units within this qualification are internally assessed by the centre and externally verified by OTHM. The qualifications are criterion referenced, based on the achievement of all the specified learning outcomes.
- To achieve a ‘pass’ for a unit, learners must provide evidence to demonstrate that they have fulfilled all the learning outcomes and meet the standards specified by all assessment criteria. Judgement that the learners have successfully fulfilled the assessment criteria is made by the Assessor. The Assessor should provide an audit trail showing how the judgement of the learners’ overall achievement has been arrived at
Language of Instruction & Delivery Mode
This programme will be delivered in English in our Campus in St. Julian’s.
The qualification is designed to be delivered over one academic year for full-time study, but it is also flexible in its delivery in order to accommodate part-time and distance learning. The qualification is delivered face-to-face, through lectures, tutorials, seminars, distance and online learning.
