About this Course
This is an Accredited Course by the Malta Further & Higher Education Authority (MFHEA), at MQF/EQF Level 4, with 30 ECTS.
The objective of the OTHM Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Information Technology is to equip learners with the skills and knowledge required to work in the IT sector or progress to further study. The qualification is designed to ensure that each learner has an opportunity to build sector knowledge and learn current skills and practices in computer systems, networks, coding, website development, mobile communications, cyber security and social media for business.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the OTHM Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Information Technology programme, the learner will be able to:
- Understand basic hardware and software components that make up computer systems
- Carry out basic installation and configuration.
- Understand the fundamental processes involved in developing simple programmes and applications, as well as details of basic website design.
- Understand the importance of networks to computer systems and their essential use in a variety of applications.
- Learn network technologies and the delivery of a wide range of networked services
- Understand the uses and features of mobile communication devices, understand the communication technologies used in mobile devices and implications of mobile communications technology.
- Understand cyber security and the consequences and implications of inadequate cyber security.
- Learn how businesses use social media to promote their products and services, learn how to create a social media policy and meet business requirements.
Awarding Body
This qualification is awarded by OTHM. This qualification is accredited by the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority. MFHEA deems this OTHM Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Information Technology to be at MQF/EQF Level 4 with 30 ECTS in the Malta Qualifications Framework and the European Qualifications Framework for lifelong learning.
Entry Requirements
Applicants should hold:
- Minimum Qualification: HSC, GCSE, grade 12, F.A or equivalent
- English Proficiency
Minimum Age: 16 If an applicant does not meet the above entry requirements, you are encouraged to contact the Academy for an interview.
Assessment Mode
- All units within this qualification are internally assessed by the centre and externally verified by OTHM. The qualifications are criterion referenced, based on the achievement of all the specified learning outcomes.
- To achieve a ‘pass’ for a unit, learners must provide evidence to demonstrate that they have fulfilled all the learning outcomes and meet the standards specified by all assessment criteria. Judgement that the learners have successfully fulfilled the assessment criteria is made by the Assessor. The Assessor should provide an audit trail showing how the judgement of the learners’ overall achievement has been arrived at
Language of Instruction & Delivery Mode
This programme will be delivered in English in our Campus in St. Julian’s.
The qualification is designed to be delivered over one academic year for full-time study, but it is also flexible in its delivery in order to accommodate part-time and distance learning. The qualification is delivered face-to-face, through lectures, tutorials, seminars, distance and online learning.
