About this Course
This is an Accredited Course by the Malta Further & Higher Education Authority (MFHEA), at MQF/EQF Level 5, with 30 ECTS.
This programme provides students with knowledge and understanding of retail and store management and aims to help them build the skills required for professional practice in retailing as related to retail environment, strategy, negotiations, customer experience, and people management.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, the learner will be able to:
- Identify the market and management theories, typical structures, and trading formats of a range of retailer channels;
- Define the characteristics of retailing and the key factors influencing retail environment;
- Develop comprehensive understanding of retail strategy and its design, implementation, and assessment based on consumer needs and market changes;
- Describe the actions taken to acquire and retain customers and what tools to use to create excellent customer experience;
- Define inventory management practices used in retail settings;
- Identify management and leadership functions, styles and tools to motivate workers in retail settings;
- Identify communication and negotiation techniques used in retail and store management context.

This course is targeted at:
- People within retail sector and other individuals aspirating for professional and academic advancement in retail and store management.
Awarding Body
This qualification is awarded by IDEA Academy. This qualification is accredited by the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority. The MFHEA deems this Undergraduate Certificate in Retail and Store Management to be at MQF/EQF Level 5 with 30 ECTS in the Malta Qualifications Framework and the European Qualifications Framework for lifelong learning.
Entry Requirements
Candidates who apply for this course will possess:
- A qualification at MQF Level 4 (one ‘A’ Level or equivalent in any subject) and a pass in English Language and
- Mathematics at MQF Level 3 (‘O’ Level or equivalent).
If an applicant does not meet the above entry requirements, you are encouraged to contact the Academy for an interview.
Course Structure
This is a part-time programme and will typically take 30 months to complete. The programme comprises a total of 10 modules. The method of assessment is assignment-based. The course comprises:
- 6 lectures per module;
- 3-hour lectures (evening);
- 12 hours of guided learning, presentations, comprising synchronous online discussions, tutorials and/or videos;
- Self-study hours comprising research, reading and assignment work.
Assessment Mode
The programme includes different forms of assessment which allow for and promote students’ critical engagement. The formative and summative assessment tasks may include an in-class assignment and/or a home-based written assignment using diverse assessment tools which may take the form of online and in-class discussions, examinations, case studies, reports, proposals, essays, and presentations, etc., as applicable to the diverse modules.
Language of Instruction & Delivery Mode
This programme will be delivered in English in our Campus in Mosta.
The course will be delivered through a flexible combination of modern face-to-face lectures, webinars, seminars and discussion forums, tutorials, group work, case studies, guest speakers, organisational visits and independent study.
